As per the Bismarck Weather Service, there is now a Winter Storm Watch in effect for Mercer and Oliver Counties. Early Thursday morning light to moderate rainfall will develop across southern North Dakota, slowly spreading across much of the western and central areas throughout the day and into the night. Rain will turn into snow on Thursday evening. Snowfall amounts are 4 inches, up to 6-8 inches in some areas(Note: Mercer County is smack in the middle of this 6-8 inches area). Moisture content of this snow/rain will total 3/4 – 1 1/4 inches. The moisture will not add to the projected 21.8 feet on the Knife River, but will prolong this high level through Saturday. Then on Saturday, the Knife River levels will start to go down. If any residents have snow amounts please sent them, along with where you are at in the county, via the “contact us” tab on this website. The Weather Service appreciates this information.
